As described in the course catalog, this course covers advanced topics in algebra. This semester will focus on combinatorial and computational aspects of commutative and homological algebra, including graded rings and algebras, Hilbert series, graded free resolutions, and Gröbner bases. Applications to lattice point geometry, polyhedral combinatorics, and elsewhere will be covered as time permits.

Homework
There will be one homework assignment given each week, usually assigned on Thursday and due in class the following Thursday. There will also be one preliminary assignment given each week, usually assigned on Tuesday after class and due in class on Thursday.
